PITTULLIE BARCLOY MILL
ROCKCLIFFE KIRKCUDBRIGHTSHIRE GALLOWAY SCOTLAND
A BEAUTIFUL SCOTTISH HOLIDAY COTTAGE ON THE COAST OF GALLOWAY, LOOKING SOUTH OVER THE SOLWAY FIRTH, 5 MILES FROM DALBEATTIE AND 20 MILES FROM DUMFRIES
Rockcliffe is a lovely unspoiled quiet village with amenities and a sandy bay. It was once an important Celtic settlement, possibly the capital of a small Celtic Kingdom, where many relics of international origin have been found indicative of its past importance. In more recent times it was a popular Victorian holiday retreat renowned for its quiet and peace. Along with nearby Kippford and Sandyhills, it is in the heart of what is known as the Scottish Riviera, because of its kindly climate influenced by the Gulf Stream.
The
area is considered to be one of the most picturesque in Scotland and justly
deserves the protection it enjoys under the jurisdiction of the National Trust
of Scotland and is now designated a 'National Scenic Area'. Cycling is an excellent
way to appreciate this countryside via our uncrowded coastal and country lanes.
Pittullie is part of Barcloy Mill, near Castle Point. It is full of sunlight and always warm (oil CH), beautifully furnished in a sophisticated modern style, comfortable, and with a dining table to seat twelve. There are books and games as well as a stair barrier for infants. The kitchen is fully equipped, with serving dishes as well!
It gives complete quiet and is only five minutes walk from the sea; it has a view of Rockcliffe's bay, just a quarter of a mile away. Pittullie is an ideal base for golf (Southerness and Kippford) for sailing (Kippford), riding (Barend) or eating out (Colvend 1 mile, Kippford, Dalbeattie etc), castle-gazing (Buittle, Drumcoltran, etc, also Sweetheart Abbey and the New Abbey Mill) or bird-watching, walking or pubbing (Kippford 20 minute forest walk, Haugh of Urr 15 minutes by car) and quietly soaking up the atmosphere of this beautiful coastal village.
